Kolkata doctor rape-murder: CBI questions former RG Kar College principal for second day

The Central Bureau of Investigation is questioning the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh for the second day in connection with the probe into the rape and murder trainee doctor at the hospital in Kolkata.

The central agency summoned Ghosh for questioning on Friday and it continued till 3am. Ghosh was made to sit in a room at the CBI's city office here at the CGO Complex till 9.30pm after which the grilling session started, an officer told PTI.

Officers in the know of the probe told PTI that during the first round of questioning, Ghosh was asked about his first reaction knowing about the death of the doctor. He was also asked to whom he instructed to inform the family and police. "Certain answers were convoluted. He was grilled till early Saturday and then allowed to leave for home," the officer told PTI.

The former principal was also asked about the roster of the victim doctor. Ghosh had resigned two days after the incident, however, faced the ire of the Calcutta High Court after the state government appointed him as principal of another government college. The HC asked him to go on long leave.

The 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and murdered while on duty and her body was discovered at the seminar hall on August 9. A civic volunteer was arrested the following day.

Meanwhile, various doctors’ associations have announced a two-day nationwide protest demanding justice for the victim and safer working conditions for doctors.
