Coming down heavily on fake news and rumours being circulated about the RG Kar Medical College Hospital incident, the Kolkata Police denied having told the late woman doctor's family that she died by suicide. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal also denied that 150mg of semen was found in her body.

Pointing out that rumour-mongering is going on even several days after the alleged rape and murder of the doctor at the state-run hospital, Commissioner Goyal urged the public to have faith in the CBI investigation. Vehemently denying two of the virally shared rumours, the top cop said, "It is wrong that we informed the victim's family that she had committed suicide. It is wrong that 150mg of semen was found in her body."

To present his case against the numerous rumours and conspiracy theories surrounding the crime that rocked the country, Vineet Goyal said that the post-mortem of the victim was video-recorded and thus transparent. Throwing weight behind CBI, he said the Kolkata Police had gathered all available evidence in time and are still cooperating with the central agency in every possible way.

"I don't see why it is being spread that we wanted to hush up the matter and finish it. Videography was done, and all evidence was collected in the presence of family and friends," the Times Of India quoted him as saying.
