The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the rape and murder of a junior doctor at a Kolkata hospital will conduct a psychological assessment of Sanjay Roy, the accused. A team of experts from Delhi's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) has arrived in Kolkata to carry out the test.

Roy, a civil volunteer with Kolkata Police, was arrested a day after the 31-year-old victim’s body was found at the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College Hospital on August 9.

Earlier in the day, a team of CBI officials visited the RG Kar hospital and carried out certain investigations there. According to reports, they collected some samples and sent them to the Central Forensic Laboratory for testing.

Another team inspected the barrack of the Kolkata Police's fourth battalion where arrested accused civic volunteer Sanjay Roy used to stay.

The central agency has prepared a list of around 40 people, including doctors, police officers, whom they would be questioning as a part of their ongoing investigation, reported PTI.

The CBI took over the probe after a direction by the Calcutta High Court which observed that no significant progress had been made in the investigation by the Kolkata Police.

A preliminary autopsy report had suggested that the victim was sexually abused and killed. There were also injuries on her left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger and lips.

The agency on Saturday questioned former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh for the second day. Ghosh had resigned from the post two days after the body was discovered.

Meanwhile, healthcare services in several government hospitals across the country remain crippled for more than a week due to the cease-work by junior doctors demanding justice for their colleague. The emergency and outpatient departments in most state-run hospitals are still closed, causing significant distress among patients.
