Levelling serious allegations against Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College Hospital where a woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered on August 9, the mother of the victim recollected how the family was notified about the horrific development. Summoned to the state-run hospital from their home in North 24 Parganas, the mother of the late doctor said that the body was half-naked. A hand was broken and blood was coming out of her mouth and eyes, letting her understand that it was not a suicide but murder.
"Her pants were open, there was only one piece of cloth on her body. Her hand was broken, blood was coming out of her eyes and mouth. Just by looking at her, it seemed that someone had murdered her. I told them it is not suicide, it's a murder," the mother told news agency ANI.
The family first got a call from the RG Kar Medical College claiming that their daughter was unwell and they needed to come. The call ended abruptly, they tried again around 10:53 AM on Friday to be told that their child died by suicide. According to investigators, the doctor was murdered before 5:00 AM on Friday.
"She went to duty on Thursday, we got this call on Friday at 10:53 AM," the mother said. Despite their rushing to Kolkata, there was a delay and they were able to see the body only by 3:00 PM, she added. It was then she noticed the numerous injuries on her late daughter's body.
"They did not cooperate with us at all, they only tried to hush up the case as soon as possible. Their attempt was to get the post-mortem done as soon as possible and remove the body," she alleged.
Earlier in the day, The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the case. A bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud is scheduled to hear the matter on Tuesday, as per the apex court website.
On Friday, two Supreme Court lawyers and a doctor from Telangana had written to the chief justice, urging him to take auto moto cognizance of the incident.
