The former principal of R G Kar state-run RG Kar Medical and College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, appeared before the CBI on Sunday for the third consecutive day in connection with their probe into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.

Ghosh was first called for questioning on Friday at CBI's CGO complex in Salt Lake. He was summoned again on Saturday where he was grilled for 13 hours. The principal who arrived around 10:30 am with documents was seen leaving after 11 pm. The investigating officers reportedly asked him to appear before them on Sunday too as "certain answers were convoluted."

"The former principal has been asked to come again today at 11 am. We have a list of questions for him," the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer told PTI.

The investigators reportedly asked Ghosh about his initial reaction on hearing the news about the doctor's death. He was also asked to specify who he contacted on hearing the news and why he made the parents wait for nearly three hours.

Amid allegations that there was a conspiracy in the crime, the CBI sleuths also asked the ex-principal who ordered the renovation of the rooms near the seminar hall, where the victim's body was found, after the incident. "We are trying to find out whether there was any conspiracy or pre-planning to the crime. What was the principal doing and whether he is involved with the incident in any manner," a CBI officer told PTI.

This comes as the West Bengal Orthopaedic Association said it was removing Dr Sandip Ghosh, who is an Orthopaedic professor and the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, from all academic activities of the organisation.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata Police has issued notice Dr Kunal Sarkar and Dr Suparna Goswami to visit the police in Lalbazar for allegedly revealing the identity of the victim and sharing "misinformation" related to the case. The Kolkata Police on Saturday sought to dispel misinformation surrounding the case.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal also denied that 150mg of semen was found in her body and that the police officers had told the late woman's doctor's family that she died by suicide.

Goyal added that the post-mortem of the victim was video-recorded and thus transparent and that the Kolkata Police had gathered all available evidence in time and are still cooperating with the central agency in every possible way.
