After Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray said Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel should taken into CBI custody for questioning in the the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case, Kolkata Police on Sunday summoned the TMC leader for spreading “misinformation” about the incident on social media.

On Saturday night, through his X (formerly Twitter) account, he said, “CBI must act fairly. Custodial interrogation of Ex-Principal and Police Commissioner is a must to know who and why floated suicide story.”

In the same post, he alleged that the dog squad visited the hospital three days after the incident at RG Kar. Sukhendu questioned the reason for this delay, while the police asserted that this information was incorrect.

Kolkata Police also summoned two senior doctors for their social media posts related to the  incident. They are likely to reach the Kolkata Police headquarters on Monday.

Meanwhile, the CBI continues its probe in the alleged rape and murder of the trainee doctor inside the hospital and carried out a marathon questioning of the institute’s former principal for the third day in a row.

The CBI also reached the fourth battalion barrack of Kolkata Police in Salt Lake where the main accused in the case used stay illegally before visiting his home at Shambhunath Pandit Road in Kolkata’s Bhowanipore on Saturday.

Additionally, a special CBI team from Delhi will do the psychoanalysis of the main accused. The central agency wants to understand his mindset. The special team will evaluate Sanjay's behavior, habits, and overall mental condition.

On Sunday, fans of both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan clashed with the police outside the Salt Lake stadium. The two teams, representing the two sections of Bengali society, were scheduled to meet for the Durand Cup derby before it was cancelled due to security reasons.

However, the fans assembled at the ground to register their protest against the RG Kar incident, violating section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita which was imposed to prevent unlawful gathering of five or more persons.

The supporters countered that if the police could stop them from protesting why couldn’t they stop the vandalism that occurred in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Tollywood artistes and technicians took to the streets in Kolkata on Sunday, demanding justice to the rape-murder victim.

Film and television personalities, including Anjan Dutt, Parambrata Chatterjee, Srijit Mukherji, Srabanti, Subhasree Ganguly and TMC MLA Raj Chakraborty were among those present in the protest march.

“We are demanding justice for the victim and her family and right now it has to be delivered by the CBI,” actor Parambrata Chatterjee told THE WEEK. “However, the state administration cannot escape accountability because it was primarily their duty to provide security to the victim and all other working women in the state.”

National award winning actor Riddhi Sen told THE WEEK, “Our main demand is justice for the victim. But we are also demanding some structural changes from the administration. The changes must be made to ensure safety and protection of all citizens.”
