Forceful penetration, strangulation: Kolkata rape-murder victim’s autopsy reveals grisly details

Multiple internal injuries were also reported

The autopsy report of the Kolkata junior doctor, who was raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, said ‘manual strangulation’ caused her death. 

The autopsy report, accessed by several media, also revealed sexual assault and multiple internal injuries. "Forceful penetration/insertion in genitalia" indicating sexual assault was also mentioned in the report. 

The death of the victim was caused by manual strangulation associated with smothering, The Indian Express reported. 

However, there was no mention of any fracture in the report.

Reports also mentioned the presence of a "white thick viscid fluid" found inside her private parts. However, the nature of the substance was not clearly stated.

All injuries were inflicted before death. Injuries on different body parts, including the head, cheeks, neck, ankle, lips and nose were reported as well.

The autopsy also found haemorrhaging in the lungs and blood clots in the body. 

The junior doctor was found dead on August 9 sparking nationwide protests. The police have arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, whose Bluetooth headphones were found near the body.

Calcutta HC had ordered the government to hand over the case to the CBI after three days of the incident. Doctors and students at the hospital alleged that there was a severe lapse from the Kolkata Police in handling the case. 

Meanwhile, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh was questioned by the CBI for the fourth day in a row on Monday. Junior doctors in states including West Bengal and Delhi continued their protests demanding justice for the victim and seeking protection for the doctors across the country.
