Hundreds of painters gathered on the premises of Kolkata’s Academy of Fine Arts, known as the cultural hub of the city, to protest and demand justice for the victim in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder incident.

Artistes arrived with their brushes and canvases to create live paintings, expressing their outrage against the horrific crime that has shaken the entire nation and kept Kolkata on the boil for more than 10 days now.

“We want justice. We are not targeting either the state government or the CBI. All we want is an impartial investigation and justice for the victim and her punishment,” Sanatan Dinda, a visual artiste, told THE WEEK.

“Culprits must be punished in an exemplary manner. No one should think of repeating such brutality ever again,” he added.

Kolkata continues to outrage over the rape and murder of the trainee doctor as the city witnessed multiple protests in several locations on Monday.

Singers, photographers, lawyers, students, among others, took out rallies, demanding justice and an unbiased probe in the case.

Meanwhile, the postmortem report of the victim has revealed that she was strangled, leading to her death. The report also confirmed that the victim was raped, noting evidence of forceful penetration in her genital area.

The autopsy report, which was video recorded and done on August 9 between 6:10 pm and 7:10 pm, of the deceased medical student revealed 16 external and nine internal injuries on her body. Wounds were identified on her head, cheeks, lips, nose, right jaw, chin, neck, left arm, left shoulder, left knee, ankle, and genital area.

A rumour on social media was circulated that 150 grams of semen was found in the victim’s body. The postmortem report stated that “white viscid liquid” was collected from the victim's "endocervical canal." However, the nature of this fluid was not identified in the report.

Additionally, under the "external and internal genitalia" section, its weight was recorded as "151 grams."

The autopsy report has rejected misinformation that gave graphical descriptions of the incident which caused outrage among people. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal had earlier vehemently denied the reports that claimed 150 grams semen was found in the victim’s body.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Police has served notice to 280 individuals for spreading misinformation, disclosing the victim’s identity rumour-mongering on social media about the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital incident.

The CBI is also continuing its investigation. The central agency visited the home of the victim for the second time after its initial visit on Thursday last week.

To probe the rape and murder incident, the CBI has also involved one of the officers who was part of investigation of the Hathras incident. A team of CBI officers also visited the Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar to seek more information related to the case.

The agency also received the nod from Kolkata’s Sealdah Civil & Criminal Court to conduct polygraph test of the main suspect, Sanjay Roy. The CBI had approached the court for the polygraph test, claiming that the accused had withheld information during interrogation.
