West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose came down heavily on Mamata Banerjee-led government over the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case and charged the regime has failed women in the state.

Governor Bose told ANI, “West Bengal is not a place safe for women. Bengal has failed its women. Not the society but the present government has failed its women folk.”

Bose charged the government is insensitive to women's security and they are scared of ‘gundas’ now. “Women now are scared of 'gundas'...this has been created by the government that is insensitive to this issue,” he said. Bose added the law will take its own course in the probe into the rape and murder case by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Meanwhile, doctors’ protest demanding justice for the trainee doctor who was allegedly murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is continuing. The victim’s parents have lashed out at the state government and said they were not allowed to see her body for at least three hours.

The victim’s mother told ANI that the first caller from the hospital said her daughter was sick. The call got disconnected immediately, after which they rang back. "They told me to come to the hospital. When we called again, the (caller) identified himself as Assistant Super and said your daughter committed suicide. She went to duty on Thursday and we got this call at 10.53am on Friday," the mother told ANI.

She added that they were not allowed to see her body for at least three hours. "We could see her at 3 pm. Her pants were open and there was only one piece of cloth on her body. Her hand was broken, and blood was streaming out of her eyes, and mouth. Looking at her, it seemed that someone had murdered her," she said.“I told them it is not suicide, it’s a murder," she added.
