Pune Porsche car crash: Police arrest 2 for swapping accused minor’s blood samples

The Pune police have arrested two persons for allegedly manipulating the blood samples of the accused minor in the Pune Porsche crash case. With this, the total arrests in the case has gone up to nine.

According to police, the blood samples of two other minors who were along with the accused in the car on the day of the accident were swapped with those of two other persons. "The blood samples of two minors who were with the juvenile accused in the car were swapped with those of these two persons, who include a father of a minor," Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told PTI.

Two IT professionals lost their lives when a Porsche allegedly driven by a 17-year-old in an inebriated state ran over them in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune city on May 19.

The incident sparked massive outrage after the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the teenager within hours with minimal conditions like writing an essay on road accidents, but, he was later sent to an observation home till June 5.

Earlier, Police had arrested the teenager’s parents and doctors – Dr Ajay Taware, then HOD of forensic medicine department, Dr Shrihari Halnor and one Atul Ghatkamble, a staffer from Sassoon for allegedly swapping the blood samples of the juvenile with those of his mother.

Police had earlier arrested two middlemen--Ashpak Makandar and Amar Gaikwad-- who facilitated financial transactions between the juvenile’s family and doctors for swapping blood samples. The Pune police recently filed a 900-page chargesheet in the case against seven accused.
