A day after protesters vandalised a school in Badlapur and blocked trains at the local railway station, it has come to light that a teacher has allegedly molested six students at a school in Maharashtra's Akola.
The 47-year-old government school teacher, Pramod Manohar Sardar, was arrested after six girl students alleged that he had been harassing them and showing them porn videos.
Sardar was booked under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 74 and 75 as well as the POCSO Act.
The students of Zilla Parishad school in Kazikhed complained that the teacher had been forcefully showing them the porn videos for the past four months. The incident came to light after the girls dialled the toll-free number of the Child Welfare Committee. Following this, they panel members came to the school and spoke to the victims.
This comes on the heels of statewide protests over sexual abuse of two kindergarten girls, aged three and four, by a male attendant inside the toilet of a Badlapur town school.
The state government on Tuesday formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged sexual abuse. It is headed by Inspector General of Police-rank officer Aarti Singh. Thane Police Commissioner has been asked to submit a proposal to try the case in a fast-track court.
It has been alleged by the children's parents that they were made to wait for 11 hours before the FIR was registered.
