Local police, special task force and crime branch will be responsible for fair conduct of the written exam for the recruitment of 60,244 police constables scheduled later this week across the state.

This is one of the largest exams in the state which will be conducted in five days, in two shifts starting from August 23.

In a meeting to oversee the exam preparedness, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officers to pay attention to the smallest details. This information was given by the state’s DGP, Prashant Kumar.

Preparations include keeping a watch on cyber cafes, vehicle stands and photo copy shops near exam centres—not just on the day of the exam but even on preceding and succeeding days. Moreover, even cities which do not have examination centres will be on alert.

CCTVs will keep a watch not just at exam centres but also along the way, while drones will keep a check on identified hotspots. Police vans will also make continuous rounds around examination centres and potential trouble spots.

To ensure strict vigil over examinees, superintendents of police and circle officers will be invigilators. Gazetted officers will be posted as observers at these centres.

The UP Police Recruitment Board has been considering applicant requests over the last few days and one of the concessions given is not to bar any religious signs (such as mangal sutra) in the manner of dress.

It has also warned of action against those who are allegedly offering the question paper on social media.

In February this year, the constable recruitment written paper was cancelled days after it had been conducted after allegations of a leak. The investigation of the leak was handed over to a special task force while the government had instructed that a re-exam be conducted within six months.

In the earlier exam, too, the police had claimed that it had used multiple ways to nix any unfair means. This included biometric verification, usage of jammers to block usage of phones and the Internet. Around 48 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam.
