An absconding gangrape accused from Chhattisgarh died in Odisha after coming in contact with a live wire. The teenager stepped on an electrical trap laid by farmers to protect their crops from wild animals, Chhattisgarh police said on Thursday.

Sanjay Yadav (18) was wanted in a case registered in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district. He was among the eight men wanted for the alleged rape of a 27-year-old tribal woman in Raigarh's Pusaur police station limits on August 19. The woman was attacked while on her way to visit a local fair after celebrating the Rakshabandhan festival. All other men involved in the case except Yadav were detained. The list also included a minor boy, news agency PTI said.

All the nabbed accused were produced before a local court and sent to judicial custody while the minor was sent to a juvenile home.

It was on Wednesday night that the Odisha Police came to know about the death of a person because of the live wire in Jharsuguda. According to reports, Yadav escaped to Saraipali village in Jharsuguda district and took shelter in the house of his relative there. On Wednesday, he accidentally stepped on a live wire laid in the field and got electrocuted.

Jharsuguda police have lodged an accidental death report and initiated a probe, CSP Shukla said.
