The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has given an ultimatum to government employees to declare their assets, moveable and immovable, on Manav Sampada -- a government portal. Those failing to comply with the order by August 31 will not receive their salaries, NDTV said in a report. As a result, 13 lakh UP government staff risk losing their monthly earnings, apart from risking their promotions and other benefits.

While there are over 17,88,000 government staff in Uttar Pradesh, roughly 26 per cent have completed the submissions so far. More than 13 lakh employees are yet to disclose their assets, despite the deadline being extended several times.

Issued in August 2023, the initial deadline was December 31 of the same year. Despite the deadline being extended multiple times, not even half the staffers comply. This forced the state government to give an ultimatum to defaulters, NDTV said in a report.

The implementation of the Manav Sampada declarations is a must to enhance accountability and transparency, the Yogi government maintains. It is mandatory for all categories of officers and employees and no paygrades have been given any exceptions.

The Principal Secretary of the personnel department sent the order issued by the Chief Secretary to all the Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries as well as Department Heads and Office Heads, the news report said

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi-led Opposition is not a fan of the decision to extend the deadline several times over the months. They claim this to be a failure of the state machinery to execute an order that is said to be an anti-corruption measure.
