A day after National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah announced a pre-poll alliance with Congress for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, party vice president Omar Abdullah said consensus on a few seats is still pending.

Omar Abdullah made the statement while accompanying party leader Sakina Itoo in Kulgam to file her nomination papers.

“There are 90 seats and I can say that consensus has been reached on most of the seats,’’ he said. “On some seats, we are adamant, and on some seats the local leaders of the Congress unflinching.”

He said on Friday, the two sides will again meet and try to bring the remaining seats within the alliance to nominate candidates for those seats. “When the last list of candidates is prepared with the consent of our president, everything will be in front of you. I can’t tell right now which seat will go to which party and whether we will leave some seats for the other parties.’’

When asked about the list of NC’s candidates, he responded, “Why are you concerned about that? Other parties are just now releasing the names of their constituency in-charges, while the NC’s constituency in-charges have been working for the past ten years.”

Ask for the list from other parties, he said. “Our list of candidates has to be out before August 27. If the list is out after that then what the point.”

Omar Abdullah said today at least their first candidate has filed her nominations and they are hoping for a big win from Noorabad.

“As they say in English’ well begun is half done.”’

Omar Abdullah said this has been a good beginning and its impact will be felt on other constituencies.

Omar Abdullah refused to answer a question on him contesting the polls. He said the NC has made public its manifesto and hoped the people will elect them to serve them.
