‘Aim is to ensure peace and tranquillity’, says Indian Army chief Dwivedi visiting Manipur

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, who is in Manipur on a two-day visit to review the security situation in the violence-ridden state said the main aim is to ensure peace and tranquillity. The Army chief said he reviewed the situation along the international border and was satisfied to see the coordination between the various security agencies.

General Upendra Dwivedi told ANI, “My main aim to come here was to review the security situation as of today in Manipur and I was happy to see the great coordination between the security agencies.” The Army chief said he held discussions with discussions and “the main aim is to ensure that there is trust, peace and tranquillity in this state”.

On meeting with Chief Minister Biren Singh on Friday, General Dwivedi said the meeting was encouraging and they discussed various issues. “We were looking for the way forward, where we are able to bring peace in the state and also how to get all the communities together so that there is an enhanced harmonious relationship amongst them,” the Army chief told ANI.

In a statement, the Army said, "The Army chief along with the Eastern Army Commander reviewed the security situation along the border and the internal security situation in the area.”

General Dwivedi appreciated the efforts of Indian Army and Assam Rifles in the state and interacted with veterans, it said.
