Days after Vijay unfurled the flag of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), it has drawn flak various corners over its resemblance to other flags and symbols.

Many users on social media have trolled the TVK flag, calling it a combinations of the Spanish national flag and the Kerala government emblem. TVK flag has two red stripes separated by a yellow stripe in the middle similar to the Spanish flag. However, instead of the Spanish coat of arms, TVK flag has the vaagai flower as a central motif flanked by two white elephants.

RTI activist Selvam has lodged a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner's Office over contentious elements in the newly unveiled flag. He flagged the similarities with the Spanish national flag, which he alleged that is a disrespect to India and even went on to call for a sedition case against the actor-politician.

Many have compared the two elephants with raised trunks and two forelegs to Kerala's state emblem which also has two similar elephants raising trunks and one foreleg each.

In response to the complaint, TVK released a statement, saying the party will respond if the election commission seeks an explanation. "Our flag has two elephants, a vaagai flower and stars. The party has the right to design its own flag. If the Election Commission raises questions, we will provide answers."

Others has hinted similarities with the Fevicol logo which has two elephants faced in opposite directions.
