The CBI on Sunday morning raided the residence of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital over alleged financial irregularities.
The bureau has also carried out raids in 14 other locations in Kolkata in connection with the probe. These include premises of other accused in the case. The Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI searched the residence of Dr Debashish Som, Demonstrator of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The CBI had on Saturday registered a case of alleged financial irregularities during Ghosh's tenure at the medical college where a junior doctor was raped and murdered on August 9. The case is based on a complaint lodged by Akhtar Ali, the former Deputy Superintendent of the medical college.
The CBI took over the case after a Calcutta High Court bench directed the agency to probe the alleged corruption. The probing agency has to submit a progress report on the case on September 17.
The Kolkata Police have extended prohibitionary orders restricting gatherings of more than five people near the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital until August 31.
