PM Modi dials Russian President Putin, shares ‘insights’ from his Ukraine visit

Modi underlined the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to achieve an abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over phone and “shared insights” from his recent visit to Ukraine. The two leaders also discussed measures to further strengthen strategic partnership between the two countries.

“Spoke with President Putin today. Discussed measures to further strengthen Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. Exchanged perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from the recent visit to Ukraine. Reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict,” Modi wrote on X.

According to a PMO statement, Modi underlined the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as well as sincere and practical engagement between all stakeholders to achieve an abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“PM recalled his successful visit to Russia last month to participate in the 22nd India-Russia Bilateral Summit,” it said.

The two leaders reviewed progress on a number of bilateral issues and also exchanged views on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest.

On Monday, Modi spoke to US President Joe Biden over phone and discussed a range of regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. The two leaders also discussed the situation in Bangladesh and stressed on the need for early restoration of normalcy, and ensuring the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus.

During Modi’s visit to Ukraine last week, New Delhi and Kyiv had signed four memorandum ranging from food to pharmaceuticals. His visit to the war-torn country came weeks after his visit to Moscow.
