A nurse working at a health centre in Birbhum, West Bengal was allegedly molested by the patient during the late hours of Saturday. The shocker comes as the Supreme Court is hearing a suo motu case over the death of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and has constituted a team to suggest measures for the safety of medical professionals at hospitals.

According to police, the incident happened while the nurse was on night duty at  Ilambazar health centre in Birbhum and was administering medicine to the accused patient. The nurse was allegedly touched inappropriately by the patient while she was administering saline to him. The patient’s family was present while the incident happened, NDTV reported.

"The male patient misbehaved with me and touched me inappropriately in my private parts while I was just following the doctor's instructions. He also hurled verbal abuses at me," the nurse told NDTV. The nurse said the incident occurred due to lack of security and the patient wouldn’t have dared to do so if there was adequate security at the hospital.

The West Bengal government and Kolkata police are facing backlash for lapses in the probe into the death of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Medical professionals have been conducting nationwide protests demanding justice for the victim and better security measures at hospitals.
