Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata's KG Kar Medical College Hospital has told the probe team that he entered the seminar hall seeing someone on the floor. Denying having committed the crime, Sanjay Roy, claimed that he shook the body that was on the floor of the room but received no response.
According to the 33-year-old, he didn't know the victim -- the woman on the floor. As she remained motionless, he panicked and rushed out of the seminal room. Elaborating on how the Bluetooth headset linked to his mobile phone ended up near the body of the victim, Sanjay Roy said that he stumbled on something while fleeing the room and lost the device.
Roy, a civil volunteer with the Kolkata Police is accused of raping and killing a 31-year-old PG Medical student at the RG Kar Medical College Hospital on August 8. It was inside a seminar hall on the third floor of the hospital building that the semi-naked body of the victim was found along with the torn pieces of a headset.
CCTV footage and the device paired to Sanjay Roy's phone were among the evidence that led the probe team to him. His claim to not knowing the victim is also rejected by the sleuths as hospital CCTV footage from 11 am on Aug 8 shows him staring at the victim when she was in the company of four juniors.

Sanjay Roy also had explanation for his presence at the hospital building at odd hours. He told the investigation team that a patient he knew needed medical assistance and he intended to notify the hospital staff. He entered the building in the wee hours in search of a doctor to help the patient whose condition was deteriorating, Times Of India reported the accused as saying. It was during this effort that he entered the seminar room and found the motionless person on the ground, he said.
