CPI(M) Kerala state secretary M.V. Govindan stated that no complaints were raised against P. Sasi, political secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in the letter submitted to him by CPIM-backed independent MLA P.V. Anwar. Previously, Anwar had publicly accused Sasi of betraying the trust placed in him by the Vijayan government. He also alleged that ADGP [Law and Order] Ajith Kumar, whom he described as a “notorious criminal” with links to gold smuggling networks, had amassed illicit wealth and operated with impunity due to his connections with Sasi.
“Just because an allegation is raised that the political secretary failed in his duties, can we take action without any basis?” Govindan questioned.
M.V. Govindan stated that, in response to Nilambur MLA Anwar’s complaints, the government has already formed a police team to investigate the allegations against M.R. Ajithkumar. While the team is led by the DGP, its other members are junior to Ajithkumar. The government has not yet decided on his removal from the post of ADGP. Anwar had previously expressed dissatisfaction, remarking, "It is improper to entrust the probe against a school principal to teachers and other staff under him. I hope this won’t happen in this case." However, the CPIM appears to be proceeding with the stance that the government and the party have taken all necessary steps.
Govindan provided a somewhat quirky explanation, stating, "The investigation is led by the DGP, with other police officials there to assist. The report will be submitted within a month, and the party will decide if further inquiry is necessary." He also accused the media and opposition of using Anwar’s statements for political attacks against the CPI(M) and the government, emphasizing that Anwar should not have aired his grievances publicly.
At one point, Govindan mockingly commented, "Imagine the opposition protesting based on what Anwar is saying." When asked if he was undermining Anwar's credibility, Govindan clarified, "I didn’t say that. Anwar is a CPIM ally. If the Congress needs to launch a political protest based on Anwar’s words, it shows they lack their own political initiative in Kerala."
Govindan dismissed opposition leader V.D. Satheeshan’s claim that ADGP Ajith Kumar had a private discussion with RSS leadership on behalf of the Chief Minister in Thrissur. However, he did not explicitly deny that Ajith Kumar met the top RSS leader, stating, "Whether he met him or not, the CPI(M) has nothing to do with it."
