Madhya Pradesh police have zeroed in on three to four persons for allegedly videographing and making the video of a horrific rape incident in Ujjain viral on social media. According to police, teams have been deployed to nab the accused.

According to Ujjain police, the suspects are in different locations and efforts are on to nab them.

"We have identified three to four suspects who shot a video of the incident and made it viral. As per our information, all of them are at different locations and police teams are trying to nab them," Kotwali area's City Superintendent of Police (CSP), Om Prakash Mishra told PTI. Mishra said the victim’s health condition is stable and she is recovering at her residence.

According to police, the victim woman, a scrap collector, was forced to drink liquor by the accused, Lokesh, and he raped her in broad daylight, near a busy junction in Ujjain.

“Accused Lokesh promised to marry her, made her drink liquor and then raped her on Wednesday. Some people who were passing by shot videos of the incident instead of stopping the crime. Lokesh later fled from the spot. After the woman filed a complaint when the effect of alcohol wore off, Lokesh was arrested," Mishra said.

Leaders from various political fronts and netizens called out the lack of action by the police and demanded severe punishment against the accused. Congress national spokesperson Shama Mohamed tweeted, “A woman was raped in broad daylight on the streets of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, while bystanders filmed instead of helping. Where are we headed as a society? Since this happened in a BJP-ruled state, mainstream media and BJP leaders may not express the same outrage as they did in the Kolkata case.”
