CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury’s condition ‘critical’

A communication from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today informed that General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, who is undergoing treatment for acute respiratory tract infection at All India Institute of Medical Science, is in a ‘critical condition’. 

The 72-year-old was admitted to the AIIMS on August 19 for treatment of pneumonia. His infection has become severe. 

“Comrade Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), is in the intensive care unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, being treated for an acute respiratory tract infection. He is on respiratory support. A multi-disciplinary team of doctors is closely monitoring his condition, which is critical at this time,” the CPI(M) Polit Bureau said in a statement today. 

The doctors have put him under medication and is monitoring his health round the clock. 

On August 22, Yechury had released a six minute video from the hospital on his social media accounts paying condolence to Buddhadev Bhattacharya, former chief minister of West Bengal, who passed away on August 8. 

“It is my loss that I was not able to physically attend this memorial meeting and pay my homage to Comrade Buddhadev Bhattacharya”, he wrote on X.
