A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured after Pakistani troops fired on Indian posts along the International Border (IB) in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir, during the wee hours on Wednesday.

After Pakistani forces violated a ceasefire agreement along the border around 2.35 am, the BSF troops also retaliated. However, the casualties on the Pakistani side are yet to be ascertained.

The attack comes as the Union Territory prepares for the assembly elections. The first phase is scheduled for September 18, followed by the remaining two phases on September 25 and October 1.

The troops are on high alert along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in the wake of the unprovoked firing. The latest ceasefire deal was agreed upon on February 25, 2021.

A BSF personnel was martyred in a attack by Pakistan Rangers in Ramgarh sector. This was first such fatality on the Indian side in over three years.

On Tuesday evening, the BSF Punjab unit jointly with the Punjab police recovered a drone from a farming field near Rajatal, Amritsar. It was a China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic reportedly sent from across the Pakistani border.
