Punjab Police is on high alert after a suspected grenade blast was reported in Chandigarh on Wedesday. According to reports, locals confirmed that it was not an accidental explosion but one caused by a few men who threw a grenade at a house located in Sector 10 of Chandigarh.
The incident happened near the house of a non-resident Indian (NRI) around 6:15 pm, Hindustan Times said in a report. Multiple eyewitnesses claimed that they saw the suspected gang reaching the spot in an autorickshaw a few minutes ahead of the blast, the report added.
The blast was so loud that it was heard by people at least a kilometre away from the spot. The explosion was also captured in a CCTV camera fit in the locality. Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) assisted the Chandigarh Police in securing the scene and gathering evidence, reports said.
As the police suspect the perpetrators intend to leave Chandigarh for Mohali, personnel in the district have been asked to stay vigilant. All checkpoints have been alerted and patrol parties have been dispatched, news reports said.
