Stones were pelted at the Vande Bharat train running between Chhattisgarh's Durg and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh during a trial run on Friday night. Reports said the window panes of the train were damaged in the incident.

The stone pelting was reported in Chhattisgarh's Mahasumund and five arrests were confirmed in connection with the case. The accused were reportedly identified as Shiv Kumar Baghel, Devendra Chandrakar, Jitu Tandi, Lekhraj Sonwani and Arjun Yadav – all residents of Chhattisgarh's Bagbahra.

The  Durg-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat train will officially be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

Stones were thrown at the semi high-speed train as it was passing through Bagbahra railway station. The train was on its way back from Visakhapatnam to Durg during its trial run around 9:00 pm Friday when the incident happened, news agency PTI quoted a Railway Protection Force (RPF) source as saying.

The window panes of three coaches were damaged as a consequence of the stone pelting. “Some anti-social elements hurled stones at it, damaging window panes of the C2, C4 and C9 coaches. No one was injured,” an RPF inspector told PTI.

The group has been booked under Section 153 (anyone who endangers the safety of a person travelling on a railway by a willful act or omission is punishable with up to five years in prison) of the Railways Act, 1989.
