The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is under the jurisdiction of Tala Police Station.
Mondal was arrested after he failed to provide satisfying answers during questioning on Saturday, the officer said. According to the CBI, both Ghosh and Mondal were in touch with each other, and allegedly, Ghosh issued instructions to the policeman on how to proceed with the rape and murder case.
According to the central agency, Mondal was informed about the death of the doctor around 10am on August 9, but the FIR was lodged only around 11pm. “Both of them tried to downplay the incident as well as shield the heinous crime,” CBI said.
The 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and murdered while on duty and her body was discovered at the seminar hall on August 9. A civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was arrested in connection with the case following day. The Calcutta High Court transferred probe from state police to CBI following lapses in former’s probe.
