Social activist Anna Hazare said the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation was something bound to happen and he had advised his former comrade against venturing into politics. Kejriwal was a prominent face of Hazare-led anti-corruption movement.

Addressing presspersons in Maharashtra, Hazare said he had repeatedly advised the Aam Aadmi Party leader against joining politics. “I told him since the beginning that you should not join politics but serve the people. We have worked together for many years and told him the same thing. He never listened to me and today what had to happen has happened,” he said.

Hazare had criticised Kejriwal earlier as well, when he was arrested in cases related to alleged scam in Delhi liquor policy. Hazare said he had warned the Delhi CM against formulating the now-scrapped excise policy. The Supreme Court recently granted Kejriwal bail in the CBI case registered in connection with alleged scam.

On Sunday, Kejriwal announced his resignation from the chief minister post. Arvind Kejriwal said he will resign as the Delhi chief minister after two days and would demand early polls as he vowed not to sit in the CM's chair till people give him a "certificate of honesty"."I will only sit on CM's chair after people give me a certificate of honesty. Want to give 'agnipariksha' after coming out of jail," said the Delhi CM.

The AAP leader asserted that only the AAP can stand against the BJP's "conspiracies". Kejriwal asked people to vote in his favour only if they considered him honest.
