Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to tender his resignation during his meeting with  Lt Governor V.K. Saxena on Tuesday afternoon, reports said quoting official sources.

Saxena has given Kejriwal appointment for a meeting at 4.30 pm, they said.

"The chief minister has sought time from Saxena for a meeting on Tuesday. He is likely to tender his resignation," the Aam Aadmi Party had earlier said.

Kejriwal, who walked out of jail on bail in a corruption case linked to the Delhi excise policy scam, made a surprise announcement on Sunday when he said he would resign from the chief minister’s post within two days.

The AAP supremo also said he would become the chief minister and Manish Sisodia his deputy “only when people say we are honest”. Sisodia had been granted bail in the same case last month.

On Monday, the party said Kejriwal will submit his resignation on Tuesday and as soon as the resignation is accepted, there will be a meeting of the legislative party which will elect the next leader.

According to reports, one of the prominent names doing the rounds as a possible successor to Kejriwal is Delhi minister Atishi. The Kalkaji MLA, who holds over 10 ministerial portfolios in the cabinet, has been a troubleshooter for the AAP in the recent days, defending the party against allegations of corruption.

There are also speculation that Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal may succeed him as the chief minister.
