The Supreme Court hearing a suo motu case related to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata directed Wikipedia to take down the name and photo disclosing the identity of the victim.

"...the governing principle is that identity of the victim in rape and murder shall not be disclosed. Wikipedia shall therefore comply with the previous order passed," Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said.

The SC directive came after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the top court that the victim's name and photographs were displayed on Wikipedia.

A bench comprising CJI Chandrachud and Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra is hearing the matter.

Women lawyers facing rape threats: Sibal

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the West Bengal government, alleged that women lawyers in his chamber are facing threats of acid attacks and rape for appearing for the state government.

"There are threats to women in my chamber and then there are posts about me laughing. When did I laugh? It is being said acid will be thrown at them and raped etc. People on the ground are saying this," Sibal said.

The apex court assured that if there were any such threats to any man or woman, it would step in.

The court also directed the CBI, which is probing the case, to file status report on probe so far on alleged financial irregularities in medical departments.
