A rape-accused man who was out on bail was detained after he shot dead the minor survivor in front of her family in Uttar Pradesh. The slain girl was 17 years old and was travelling with her mother and brother when fatally shot by two men, UP Police said.

The shocking crime took place in the Kaila Devi police station area on the night of September 18, Wednesday. The primary accused was identified as 20-year-old Rinku, who was booked by the Ghaziabad police in February for the rape of a minor girl. He received bail in the case earlier this month, the cops said.

On Wednesday night, Rinku stopped the girl's family while travelling on a motorcycle. Accompanied by another man, he stopped the two-wheeler driven by her brother and fatally shot her as her mother looked on.

After the girl's mother and brother filed a complaint, the two men were picked up by the police. "A case has been registered against two men. We are looking into all aspects of the shooting incidents. CCTV footage of the area are also being gathered," Additional Superintendent of Police Shrish Chandra was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

In another development, the Allahabad High Court on Friday denied bail to former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who is serving a life sentence for gang rape.

Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Mohd FA Khan of the Lucknow bench of the court denied the bail.

The former minister had sought bail while his appeal against the conviction in the case by a special court is pending.

Prajapati, who was a mining minister in the previous Samajwadi Party government, was arrested and sent to jail in March 2017 on charges of gang-raping a woman and attempting to rape her minor daughter as well. Following a Supreme Court order of February 2017, the case was filed against Prajapati and six others on charges of gang rape, threats and under sections of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act at a police station in Lucknow.
