In a shocking incident of honour killing, the mother and two brothers of a minor girl were arrested for her alleged murder. The girl's uncle, who was directly involved in the crime, is absconding. The 17-year-old girl was a rape survivor and the mother conspired with her two sons to kill her in an effort to save the family's "reputation", UP Police found out.

The girl was shot dead while travelling with her mother and brother on a motorcycle on the night of September 18, Wednesday. They had told the police that she was shot by Rinku, who was accused of raping her. Rinku was out on bail earlier this month and the family maintained that he shot the girl while in the company of another man. Based on their claim, a case was registered the 20-year-old youth, who was accused of raping the girl in February, was picked up and interrogated.

However, the shocking conspiracy behind the murder came to light as the probe progressed. The UP Police found out that Rinku had nothing to do with the minor's killing.

It was the victim's brother Vineet and his maternal uncle Mahavir who shot her. Her other brother Neeraj, and mother Brijvat, who were on the motorcycle with her during the time of the crime knew of the plan, cops said. While the mother and sons remain detained, Mahavir is on the run, news agency PTI said in a report. The country gun and empty cartridges used to commit crime was recovered by the probe team, the report added.

Further investigation is underway, he added.
