Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against Chief Minister Chandrababu's claims that adulterated ghee was used to make the famous Tirupati laddus. Jagan, in his letter, said Naidu was trying to tarnish the sanctity, integrity and reputation of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.

Jagan, who was thrown out of power by Naidu during the recent Assembly elections, alleged that Naidu stooped so low as to hurt the beliefs of crores of people purely for political objectives. He added that the claims made by Naidu were a ruse to divert attention from the "failures of the TDP government".

The former Chief Minister said the claims that the ghee used to make the 'prasadam' had animal fat in it was "a lie spread with political motives and this false propaganda had the potential to hurt the sentiments of Hindu devotees across the globe".

Jagan also briefed the tendering process in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for the procurement of the ghee, stating that samples from every tanker of ghee are checked before they are being used. He said there was no question of sub-standard ghee being used and the robust practices in place in the TTD eliminate any scope of sub-standard products being used.

He also lashed out at CM Naidu, calling him "a pathological and habitual liar". "It is imperative that Mr Naidu be reprimanded in the severest way for his shameless act of spreading lies and the truth be brought to light. This would allay the suspicions that Mr Naidu has created in the minds of crores of Hindu devotees and restore the faith in the sanctity of the TTD," Jagan's letter read.

YSRCP legal action

The YSRCP has approached the High Court of Andhra Pradesh against the allegations made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The lawyer requested that either a sitting judge or a committee appointed by the High Court investigate the claims made by Naidu. The bench suggested that a PIL be filed by September 25, stating that the arguments would be heard on that day.
