Delhi Chief Minister Atishi assumed charge as Delhi’s eighth chief minister on Monday, by leaving the chair used by her leader and former CM Arvind Kejriwal vacant next to her.
Likening the situation to Bharat becoming king of Ayodya when Lord Ram was sent on exile, Atishi said, “Today my pain is the same as that was of Bharat when Lord Ram went to exile for 14 years and Bharat had to take charge. Like Bharat kept the sandals of Lord Ram for 14 years and assumed charge, similarly, for the next four months, I will run the Delhi government like that.”

Atishi charged the Bharatiya Janata Party did everything in its power to malign Kejriwal’s image. “Arvind Kejriwal has set an example of dignity and morality. For the last two years, the BJP has left no stone unturned to malign the image of Kejriwal. False cases were put on him, he was arrested and put in jail for six months,” she said.
Atishi has retained the 13 portfolios she held in the Kejriwal government, including those of education, revenue, finance, power and PWD. Saurabh Bharadwaj has eight departments under him, the highest after Atishi, including those of health, tourism, art and culture, PTI reported.
New entrant Mukesh Ahlawat has got portfolios of labour, SC and ST, employment and land and building departments. Gopal Rai has been given the portfolio of development, general administration department, environment and forest – the portfolios he held in the Kejriwal government. Kailash Gahlot has also retained his previous portfolios – transport, home, administrative reforms, women and child development. The Delhi Assembly's session will be held on September 26 and 27, the publication reported.
