A man's attempt to sexually assault a six-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat was foiled by a troop of monkeys which attacked the accused, reports said. The shocking news came to light after the girl, a UKG student, managed to reach the safety of her house and told her parents how the monkeys saved her.

According to Uttar Pradesh Police, the incident happened at Baghpat's Daula on Friday, September 20. The girl was playing outside her house when approached by the accused, who is now on the run. He convinced the girl to follow him and initially took her to a street near a religious house. However, he had a change of mind a took the child to an abandoned building where he tried to sexually abuse her, News18 said in a report.

According to the girl, the man never let go of her hand and threatened to kill her and her family if she resisted and didn't do as asked. The monkeys entered the abandoned building while the man forcefully removed the child's clothes, the news report said. The aggressive nature of the wild animals forced the man out of the building and the child used the chance to run back to her parents.

A police case was filed under relevant sections of the POCSO Act after the girl reached home and explained the ordeal to her kin. According to the police, the accused was not a resident of Daula but hailed from the neighbouring village. In the course of the investigation, UP Police found CCTV visuals that showed the accused travelling with the child. All efforts are on to nab him at the earliest, reports quoted the cops as saying.
