Five empty wagons of a goods train derailed in West Bengal during the early hours on Tuesday. Northeast Frontier Railway officials said none suffered injuries in the incident and efforts are on to restore traffic on the route.
According to railway officials, the goods train derailed near New Maynaguri railway station in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district at 6.20am. Railway officials added no injuries were reported.
Railway officials said several trains were diverted through other routes following the incident. The route connects the northeastern states with other parts of the country. Overhead electricity cables and a few poles were damaged owing to the derailment, the official said.
Senior railway officials have rushed to the spot and are probing the cause of the accident. Amarjit Gautam, Divisional Railway Manager, Alipurduar Divisiontold ANI, "This morning, around five wagons of an empty goods train derailed near New Maynaguri station. We are trying to restore traffic. The cause of this (accident) is yet to be ascertained. The team is checking it; we are investigating.”
