The Bombay High Court on Friday directed Maharashtra police to find a secluded spot to bury the body of Akshay Shinde, the accused in Badlapur sexual assault case who was gunned down by the police. The High Court was hearing a plea moved by Shinde’s father Anna Shinde saying he couldn’t find a burial ground for his son.
A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and M.M. Sathaye directed the police to inform Shinde’s family once the spot has been identified so that the burial rituals could be done. Though the state government argued there was no such custom of burial in Shinde community, the High Court rejected those arguments and said the community would not decide what the parents want. “Nobody has the right to decide. It is the parents' choice,” HC said.
Shinde’s family informed the Court that they were facing threats and bench directed them to file a police complaint. The High Court had posed tough questions to police while hearing Anna Shinde’s earlier plea demanding SIT probe into his son’s alleged fake encounter.
Akshay Shinde (24), who was accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls at a school in Badlapur, was shot dead in a police shootout on Monday. Shinde was being taken from Taloja Jail to Badlapur in connection with a case registered against him on a complaint by his second wife.
Shinde allegedly snatched the pistol of a police officer and opened fire. Shinde was killed near Mumbra bypass and he was killed in retaliatory firing, police claimed.
