The Hill Line police on Thursday arrested Riya Arvind Barde, a Bangladesh adult film star, for illegally staying in India by using fake documents.
The Hill Line police station in Ulhasnagar conducted raids in several parts of Navi Mumbai following a tip-off about some women staying illegally in India. Police arrested eight Bangladeshi women from Thane district in separate cases.
A team from the NRI police station raided the residential premises at Karave village in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday evening and took the women in custody.
According to officials, the women, who worked as domestic helpers in the country had entered India illegally and were residing without any valid documents.
Who is Riya Arvind Barde?
Bangladeshi national Riya Arvind Barde, known as Aarohi Barde, was accused of cheating and forgery.
According to the police, the investigation into Riya Barde's identity had begun a year ago when they received a complaint about her credentials. The probe revealed that her birth certificate, school leaving certificate and passport were listed in three different places of birth- West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Achalpur in Maharashtra's Amravati district.
An FIR was registered against the accused under IPC sections related to cheating, forgery and common intention, along with the Foreigners Act.
The police are also searching for the four accomplices of the woman who were also involved in the cheating and forgery case.
Reportedly, Riya Barde was illegally living in India with her mother Anjali Barde/ Ruby Sheikh, her brother Ravindra/Riyaz Sheikh and sister Ritu/ Moni Sheikh.
Police officials told The Times of India that her mother allegedly married Arvind Barde from Amravati so they could continue residing within the country. Currently, her parents are residing in Qatar.
TOI also reported that she was an adult film actress who had been employed in projects done by Raj Kundra Productions. She also acted in several movies.
Riya Barde was previously arrested by police in Mumbai in connection with a case related to prostitution under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
