"The investigation and the CCTV footage revealed that something unfortunate had happened to him. Police have taken into custody a person named Akash. During questioning, Akash said that he along with a partner murdered Bharat Kumar and threw the body in the canal. SDRF and NDRF are trying to recover the body," DCP East Lucknow Shashank Singh told reporters.
The police added that the accused, hailing from Chinhat, had ordered an iPhone worth about ₹ 1.5 lakh from Flipkart and opted for the COD (Cash on Delivery) payment option. Sahu made the delivery at his place and asked for money, after which the accused Akash and his accomplice Gajanan strangulated Sahu. They put his body in a sack before disposing it in the Indira canal.
The victim's brother told reporters that Sahu's death needed to be probed. "My brother had gone for delivery of a product. When he demanded the price of the delivered product the customer killed my brother. My brother should get justice. He was married and his family is alone now," he added.
A CCTV visual showing Sahu on his way to make the delivery also did rounds on social media.
