The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday launched the fifth edition of Mission Shakti cybercrime being its focus.
As Navratrai, the festival which celebrates nine forms of the Goddess Durga got underway on Thursday, a 10-day drive was launched to ensure 100 per cent redressal of all cyber crimes against women and girls. This disposal is to include complaints and police reports. The operation has been named Garud.
Mission Shakti is an initiative of the state government which aims to empower women regarding their safety, security and self-reliance. It addresses a whole spectrum of needs from empowerment to entrepreneurship.
In its fifth edition, nine drives, each of 10 days, will be launched.
The first such edition kicked off in October 17, 2020; while the fourth was from October 14, 2022.
The mission brings together 12 state departments, including home, health, MSME and police.
On the anvil this time is a Women’s Health helpline by dialing which women can get expert medical advice on issues that they might be hesitant to discuss otherwise because of taboos. It will also offer tele-consultation services. This will also eliminate the need for women living in remote areas to go to hospitals.
The Mission will also celebrate women entrepreneurship by giving them space to display their wares at what is known as the 1090 intersection. This gets its name from the Women Police powerline that is situated at the intersection.
While there is a nodal officer in every district for the Mission, officers from all departments will also connect with women in different geographies remotely.
The Mission, in its first phase trained 76,547 women to become entrepreneurs. This included training to operate e-rickshaws that included practical operation and business management modules. It is noteworthy that both the women’s police helpline and e-rickshaws for women drivers were ideas launched during the previous Samajwadi Party government.
It is also noteworthy that the government’s own website on the programme that records the milestones achieved by the Mission does not list a single programme under the ‘completed’ category.
