The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the corruption case against former RG Kar Medical College's principal Sandip Ghosh arrested a Trinamool Congress youth leader on Thursday.
The arrested man was identified as Ashish Pandey, who was a member of Sandip Ghosh's close circle. The Trinamool leader was under CBI's scanner and was questioned by the CBI on September 30, news agency PTI reported.
Ghosh was arrested in the corruption case on September 2. Later the agency took his custody in the August 9 alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the medical college in Kolkata.
In its FIR registered on the directions of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI has booked Ghosh and three Kolkata-based private entities Ma Tara Traders of Madhya Jhorehat, Banipur, Howrah; Eshan Cafe of 4/1, Belgachia, and Khama Louha.
The premises of all these entities named in the FIR were searched during the operation.
The agency has filed the FIR against Ghosh and the private entities under Indian Penal Code sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Police on Wednesday arrested a person for allegedly threatening and abusing a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
According to police sources, a complaint was lodged on Wednesday afternoon by a doctor at RG Kar Hospital against a person who came with his relative to the hospital's trauma unit for treatment. The police have started an investigation into the case which has been filed under Section 351(3)/132/79/54 BNS at Tala police station.
