A 30-year-old man avenged his father’s death after waiting for 22 years in Gujarat’s Bodakdev. The accused was only eight-year-old when his father was murdered in a similar modus operandi.

According to police, Gopal Singh Bhati (30) ran over Nakhat Singh Bhati (50), a private security guard employed at a residential colony in Thaltej, Gujarat on Tuesday. Though Gopal managed to escape from the spot, he was nabbed by localities a few metres away. Though it appeared as a usual accident initially, on further probe, police found Gopal was exacting revenge for his father Hari Singh Bhati’s murder in 2002.

Gujarat police said Nakhat, along with four other accomplices mowed down Hari Singh Bhati in 2002. The accused were sentenced to nine years for the murder then. Gopal, who was only eight years old then, had been waiting for the right moment to avenge his father’s murder, police said.

Police came to know about the revenge angle after they checked Gopal’s  call records and recent bank transactions. According to police, Gopal bought the truck used for the murder only a week ago and had visited Nakhat’s neighbourhood several times last week as part of recce. Gujarat police have registered a case for murder against Gopal and they are investigating further.
