Zirwal is reportedly opposed to granting reservation for Dhangar community under ST category

Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) faction leader and Deputy Speaker NarhariZirwaljumped from the third floor of Maharashtra Mantralaya allegedly protesting over tribal quota issue. Zirwal jumped off the building along with two other tribal legislators, luckily, they landed on the safety net.

Narhari Zirwal and at least two tribal legislators jumped off the third floor of the Mantralaya building here and landed on the safety nets on Friday afternoon, an official told PTI.  

Zirwal, along with tribal legislators were protesting against the inclusion of the Dhangar community in tribal quota. According to officials, none of the legislators suffered injuries and they landed on a safety net. 

Reportedly, Zirwal, a senior MLA from the tribal community, was opposed to granting reservations to Dhangar community under ST category. Zirwal had said he would conduct indefinite protest outside the Mantralaya condemning the move. 

The Maharashtra government is reportedly considering granting reservation to Dhangar community under the ST category ahead of assembly elections. The community can influence poll results in 25-30 seats in western Maharashtra.
