A search operation has been launched after a Karnataka businessman went missing on Sunday morning near Mangalore's Kulur bridge. A damaged BMW car belonging to Mumtaz Ali was found near the bridge.
Ali is the brother of JD(S) MLC B M Farooq and former Congress MLA Mohiuddin Bava.
City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal told reporters that he received information on Sunday morning that a damaged vehicle belonging to Ali was found near the bridge. There was no sight of Ali.
Police said Ali left his house in his vehicle around 3 am. The businessman is said to have roamed around the city before his vehicle was found near the bridge around 5 am. It was his daughter who called the police regarding his missing.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Mumtaz Ali had sent a cryptic WhatsApp message to his daughter, stating that he wouldn’t be returning.
Officials suspect he might have jumped from the bridge into the river. It is unclear what caused the damage to the vehicle. The SDRF personnel and Coast Guard are searching the river.
Mumtaz Ali is the chairman of Misbah Group of Institutions.
