Haryana elections Congress workers celebrate in Haryana after early trends show party winning by huge majority

The vote counting in the assembly elections in Haryana began at 8 am on Tuesday and the much-awaited election results for the 90 seats will be out in a few hours. The state recorded 67.9 per cent voter turnout in the polls.

The state government has beefed up security at the counting venues with three-tier arrangements. This will be the first major election after the Lok Sabha polls where the BJP and the Congress are facing each other directly.

Besides the ruling BJP and the Congress, other parties in the fray include Aam Aadmi Party, INLD-BSP and JJP-Azad Samaj Party.

The elections saw around 1,031 candidates, including 464 Independents, battling it out. However, the women representation in the elections was only one against 10 men as only 101 female candidates were in the fray.

The exit polls predicted a Congress victory. If this happens, Bhupinder Singh Hooda is likely to become the next chief minister of Haryana. But the BJP government led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has claimed it will form the government with full majority.
