The first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3, stretching from Aarey to the Bandra-Kurla Complex, was opened on Monday. The new line will help commuters access Terminal 1 and 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

The 12.69km Aarey Colony JVLR-BKC stretch is part of the Aqua Line, which extends from Aarey to Colaba. In total, the Metro Line 3 is 33.5km-long. It will have 48 pilots, including 10 women during the first phase.
The stretch was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. While inaugurating the new line, PM Modi posted that the expansion of Mumbai Metro network will boost the 'Ease of Living' for people.

Timings and frequency
On the opening day on October 7, Aqua Line services will begin at 11 am and continue till 8.30 pm. From October 8 onwards, services will begin at 6.30 am and continue till 10.30 pm except Sundays. On Sundays, services will start only at 8.30 am.
During peak hours, trains will ply at an interval of 6.5 minutes and during normal hours, there will be a gap of 15 to 20 minutes. There will be 96 round trips between Aarey and BKC. Around four lakh is the estimated ridership daily and MMRC expects to cut vehicular trips by 6.65 lakh and save 3.45 lakh litres of fuel. Overall, the Metro authority hopes to reduce traffic by 35 per cent.
Tickets and fares
Tickets can be purchased at the station counters or via MMRC's Metro Connect 3 app. Tickets will cost a minimum of Rs 10 and a maximum of Rs 50.
