‘Will ascertain motive in 3 days’, says Ajit Pawar as Mumbai police deploy teams across India to nab Baba Siddique’s shooters

Besides Mumbai police, Delhi police have also sent a special team to Maharashtra to assist with the probe. Police have arrested 2 shooters and on the lookout for third person

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said the special teams have been deployed to probe the assassination of NCP leader Baba Siddique and the motive behind the murder will be ascertained within three days. Pawar visited Siddique’s family at the hospital and condoled his death.

Addressing presspersons after visiting Siddique’s family members, Pawar said such an incident happened and Mumbai police have begun the probe into the case. “The police have begun probe and two persons have been arrested. Five special teams have been formed and they have been sent to different states as part of the probe,” he said.

The Nationalist Congress Party supremo said himself, CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis are monitoring the probe. “Who gave the contract for murder and who is behind all this will be known in two or three days,” Pawar said.

Ajit Pawar visited Cooper Hospital in Mumbai where the post-mortem of Baba Siddique's body was conducted and consoled the family. Siddique’s body was taken to his residence in Bandra after completing the post-mortem. The last rites will be performed with full state honours at Bada Qabrastan, in Mumbai lines at 8.30pm on Sunday.

Siddique was shot outside his son’s office in Kher Nagar while he was celebrating Vijayadashmi on Saturday night. Though he was rushed to hospital, doctors pronounced him dead. Mumbai police have recovered six empty bullet shells from the spot. Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case and are on the lookout for the third person. The Delhi police have also sent a special team to Mumbai to assist with the probe.
