Sureshwar Singh, the MLA from the Mahasi constituency in Bahraich who accompanied the family, said, “The situation in Bahraich is now under control. When caught, the culprits will be treated appropriately.”
He added that the situation in Bahraich is normal since last evening after the cremation of the victim. “The opposition has nothing better to do and is thus saying that the police and the administration are equally to blame for what happened.”
However, Singh inadvertently let it slip that there was laxity on part of the police on the day of the incident, when he said that “action has been taken against those who were responsible for the laxity”.
The deceased Mishra’s father, Kailash Nath, said, “My son was tortured and murdered… they have destroyed our family and should be punished”.
“We do not know who the culprit is. We did not see anyone. But we want justice. That is all that we want,” Mishra said.
The family reiterated that the local administration was not present when violence broke out.
Meanwhile, the police have located the main accused. He is believed to have been making a run for Nepal. There has been no official word on an arrest as yet.
