Jharkhand assembly polls in two phases; polling in Maharashtra on Nov 20

Polled votes will be counted in both states on November 23

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said voting for the Maharashtra assembly election will be conducted on  November 20 and Jharkhand will go to polls in two phases. The counting of votes will be conducted in both states on November 23.

He was accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sandhu during the press conference to announce the poll schedule for elections to Maharashtra and Jharkhand assemblies.

Announcing the schedule for Maharashtra, Kumar said the election will be conducted in a single phase in Maharashtra. The term of the current 288-member assembly ends on November 26. There are 9.63 crore voters in Maharashtra including 4.97 crore male voters and 4.66 crore female voters, Kumar said.

In Jharkhand, polling will be conducted in two phases - November 13 and November 20, Kumar said. Votes will be counted in Jharkhand also on November 23. 

As per the election commission, polling will be conducted in 43 assembly constituencies in the first phase and in 38 seats in the second phase. Rajiv Kumar noted assembly polls were conducted in five phases in Jharkhand last time. 

Along with the assembly polls, bypolls to 48 assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha constituencies will be conducted, Kumar said. Election to 47 assembly seats and Wayanad Lok Sabha seat will be conducted on November 13. Bypolls to Nanded Lok Sabha seat and one assembly seat in Uttarakhand will be conducted on November 20.
